The Heroes of my Journey

Everybody has a hero, an idolised figure of strength and nobility, a role model who they continuously strive towards becoming throughout the course and development of their lifetime. In ancient Greek political and religious literature the concept of a “hero” was presented with a twofold meaning. On the outset, a heroic title expressed the denotation of a divined being merited with righteous status subsequently following their demise. Irrefutably heroes were also portrayed as iconic warriors, embellished by supreme virtues of bravery and selflessness empowered by the relentless desire of passion intrinsically driven towards triumph in battle. Analogously, the contemporary delineation of a hero in Western culture is expressive of a courageous and outstanding ideal with noble qualities who have performed an act of gallantry and self-sacrifice.
I am lucky enough to have been blessed with two heroes in my life: my parents. Comparable to both the ancient and contemporary representations, they are inherently virtuous in terms of the heroism they have revealed to me through immense valour and bravery, selflessness and self-sacrifice, righteousness and nobility, and above all the deepest of passions impelling triumph – even in the most challenging of situations.
My mother and father are the reason why I have pursued this journey of academic growth and self-development. I look towards them as distinctive role models who I have used as motivation to infuse the spirit of courage, devotion, nobility and passion in my research. It goes without saying that my aspiration for them both entices me to fight for my passions and continuously succeed in all my endeavours. Let’s hope I make them proud…
Thanks Mum and Dad!!
